ComposerCast 018 Snippet | Adam Levy Solo

What’s your favourite guitar solo? 🎸

I really love the guitar in the background of this snippet of the podcast. It’s Adam Levy (@stringjuggler) playing one of the most perfect melodies and I feel bad I couldn’t remember his name in the moment.

Writing a melody like that may sound simple but when you watch the video of Adam breaking it down, you realise just how much thought needs to go into it. The solo starts low and finishes high to increase intensity towards the end. More often than not, he lands on chord tones, especially the 3rd to give it that sweet sound. When the Em chord comes in, he lands on the 5th instead (B) to emphasise the change as the chords had been looping round C and Am before that.
